Mushroom Mugs (Mishima)

How its made:

These cups are made using a technique called Mishima. A cup is covered with wax resist, to prevent any underglaze from sticking to the surface, then an image is carefully carved. Black underglaze is painted over the entire surface of the cup, then wiped away, leaving black only where the image was carved.

Mushroom Mugs (sculpted)

Inspired by the weird shapes of mushrooms and created to incorporate the vision of a fantasy forest.

How its made:

Mushroom stalks are used as the handle, with the addition of a sculpted mushroom thumb rest. Sometimes fairy doors are carved. They are glazed in a way which makes them look as if they’ve just come out of the forest.
